Mons has lots going on  – with our very own Cognac and Pineau producers, Laval-Aubinaud. You can buy direct from the property after a tasting session. Kathy and her Mum speak English very well too. They also feature on our bespoke Food Tours.

Just a fifteen-minute drive from La Grue Gites, the picturesque town of Rouillac is a must-visit for any guest. Known for hosting one of the largest markets in the Charente: La Foire 27.

Steeped in history, the town is surrounded by sites of historical interest, perfect for those eager to explore ancient Roman ruins and stunning architectural landmarks. A highlight is Les Bouchauds, a well-preserved Roman amphitheatre that offers a glimpse into the past and a sense of wonder at the architectural prowess of ancient civilizations.

For fishing, we have Les Gours 15 mins from La Grue, Luxe and Thors nearby. Pop in to the local fishing shop in Aigre for advice. English speaking. 

Verteuil-sur-Charente, thirty minutes away, has a beautiful Chateau and is a lovely day out. 

In eighty minutes you can be on the beautiful Atlantic beaches of Royan, Meschers and Chatelaillon Plage. Read more about the beaches in the region.
