Most of our house-hunting guests fall in love with Aigre, our local town. It feels more like a bustling village – small enough to feel friendly, but big enough to have everything you need.
We always send guests to Thursday morning market day – not just for the fresh produce, but because it’s a real community event. Stalls spill out into the square, neighbours catch up over coffee, and the scent of bread and cheese fills the air. It’s exactly the kind of local life many of our guests are searching for.
Get to Know the Local Producers
Want to experience real Charente flavour? We love connecting our guests with nearby artisans and producers:
- 🧀 Valérie & Marina Raffier – Local cheesemakers with a farm shop open every morning.
- 🌾 Philippe Guedon – Organic pasta and flour producer just 10 minutes away in Gourville. His farm is also a collection point for weekly organic orders.
- 🍷 Mr Vilneau – A five-minute drive for award-winning IGP Charentais wines that make a perfect moving-in gift (or Friday treat!).
You’ll also find charming bakeries, many of which remember your face (and favourite pastry) after just one visit. It’s these human connections that make relocating feel so much more manageable – and welcoming.

France is a treasure trove for vintage lovers – and the Charente is no exception. Jane, one of our recent guests, asked for a list of local brocantes and antique shops, and we were more than happy to oblige.
